THING 227 – Seussical @ Greenwich Academy – Jan 21st

There are few events more fantastic than the Seussical at Greenwich Academy. Kids & Dr. Seuss, what else could you ask for! I highly recommend that those who are available next Saturday (cancel your plans if you are busy) come.  It starts at 10:30am and includes face painting afterwards, so you’ll be well prepared to take on your afternoon and evening activities in style :)
The Cowan Center at Greenwich Academy is happy to welcome back TheatreworksUSA to perform the musical “Seussical.” “Oh, the thinks you can think” when Dr. Seuss’s best-loved stories collide and cavort in an unforgettable musical caper! Adapted from the Broadway version, this adaptation especially for young audiences features thirteen actors and enhanced production values. Seussical is TheatreworksUSA’ biggest show ever!
TheatreworksUSA is America’s largest and most prolific professional not-for-profit theater for young and family audiences. Since 1961, they have enlightened, entertained and instructed over 78 million people in the United States and Canada.

Thing 226: Greenwich Continuing Education…keep learning and have fun!

Living in Greenwich is not only fun, delicious, convenient, but also educational!!!  The Center for Continuing Education has classes for everyone:  mothers, daughters, sons, father, friends, young professionals…and even your pets!

The Center offers classes for personal finance, computer skills, nautical lessons, sports classes, culinary lessons, gardening, college prep, and the visual arts.  You can gain your boating license, learn to cook and get fit all at one place among family and friends.  The Greenwich Adult & Continuing Education, a non-profit organization, provides a program for high school students through adults of all ages, who work or live in the greater Fairfield/Westchester area, offering excellent learning opportunities that effectively meet the diverse interests and needs of the community. Some 3,000 students per year participate in 250 non-credit classes offered in September and again in January through June.

Thing 225: January 5th, Thursday….Pinkberry Makes its swirl on the avenue with free treats!

A few week ago, I mentioned that Pinkberry would soon open on Greenwich Avenue, and now it is just about to debut.  From 5-9 pm on Thursday January 5th, come visit the new location on the avenue and enjoy free frozen yogurt.  Additionally, the first 100 people in the door with receive a free Pinkberry T shirt, so make sure to get in line prior to 5!

Pinkberry is well known for its super fresh toppings for its delicious frozen yogurt. All the fruit toppings are prepare on site and on a daily basis to maintain consistency at every location.  It is tart, sweet and healthy which is a nice alternative to ice cream that happens to be Kosher as well!  Yes, we just support our local ice cream shops, but why not mix it up – or should I write swirl it up at Pinkberry!

Thing 224: It’s winter but … visit Greenwich Avenue and you can feel like you are in the tropics!

YES  -  living in Greenwich, CT is one of the most ideal lifestyles in the world.  From the premium real estate to fine dining and shopping this is the place to be for a wonderful lifestyle.  Recently, Letarte Swimwear opened its doors at 269b Greenwich Avenue, across from well know bistro, Mediterraneo near the bottom of the avenue.  The luxurious swimwear has its home base in Maui, Hawaii and has been a iconic brand since 2000. The company is owned by two sisters, Lisa Letarte Cabrinha and Michele Letarte Ross, who both have an eye for amazing color and prints that they incorporate into their line of bathing suits and cover ups for the beach!

 

   In addition to bathing suits and cover ups, the two sister in the lovely photo above also carry skin care, and sportswear at their boutiques as well.  There is something for the teen, young lady, mother and mature lady at Letarte, so all the ladies leave happy and in good fashion. Thing 223: Dale May opening at Samuel Owen Gallery on the Ave Tonight!

Samuel Owens Gallery located at 378 Greenwich Avenue has quite the presence, with a 5000 square foot studio and strong reputation within the Westchester and Fairfield communities. The gallery was started by Lee and Cindy Milazzo who not only put beautiful work on view, but also have if for sale along with a superior framing business withing this locations as well.

Samuel Owen Gallery offers an array of hand crafted frames imported from around the world. Many of these exquisite frames are hand carved by the same craftsmen who build frames for the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) and the Metropolitan Museum in New York.  The boutique framing gallery offers an impressive collection of original frames with hand painted, hand carved, leather and gold leafed mouldings. We are committed to helping each customer tastefully match a custom frame to the work of art it will hold and to the environment where it will hang.

Specifically, the gallery will feature Dale May from December 15th through January 19th.  Dale May is a NY based photographer most known for his digital manipulation as seen through his show Lego Wars.  He is internationally recognized for his commercial photography, usually around specific famous characters such as Legos in his latest show.  A photographic study of popular culture combined with commercial branding and a bit of nostalgia, May revisits the tiny plastic Lego toys of his childhood and photographs them to stand tall and demand attention.

These prints are crafted in archival acrylic to give the work a high-polished glossiness reminiscent of the Lego pieces themselves. The show is extremely chic, just take at look at the images below:

Thing 222: Great Tuesdays in Greenwich at Mediterraneo Restaurant

Thing 221: Greenwich Holiday Stroll Weekend is here!

The holiday stroll taking place in Greenwich this weekend, December 3rd and 4th is simply one of the best reason to live in this lovely town.  Come walk the streets of town and enjoy shopping, dining, musical performances and much much more with your local community. As you ponder around the avenue, do NOT forget to go down Arch street and stop at McArdle’s Garden Center for a photo with Santa and REAL reindeer!  Not only is this event fun, but residents are encourage to donate to “Kids in Crisis”, a charity that is located in our state, helping children of Connecticut deal with numerous types of anxiety in their lives. Children experience abuse, hunger, neglect, family conflict and  more, are assisted through this organization so this is Greenwich’s opportunity to provide assistance to local children.

Throughout the weekend, family, singles, couples and friends can enjoy carolers, horse and buggy rides, face painting, holiday beverages, and the viewing of ice sculptures, on top of checking out the best store on the avenue.    Below the schedule of events is provided, so please take advantage and enjoy:

Thing 219: Hit the avenue and add Sparkle to any little girls’ day in Greenwich!

After Lindsday Cain struck success with Femmes Gemmers, a fabulous jewelry boutique on Greenwich Avenue she noticed that young girls: daughters, nieces, family friends’ children wanted the same fun jewelry designed onsite by the individual themselves.  The numerous visit the Femmes Gemmes demonstrated to Lindsay that young girls, also wanted the ability to pick out beads, chains, charms and gemstones for their own jewelry as well.  The concept of a jewelry making party became popular with ladies in Fairfield County and NYC, and without long the younger girls aspired for similar evens, so Lindsay opened Little Sparklers on Greenwich Avenue to fill the need.

Thing 218: Opera in Greenwich, enjoy the event and help our local library as well!

         The Greenwich Library is not just a place to borrow books, it is a destination for learning and enjoyment.  In addition to a large array reading, listening and video material the library also hosts its own art gallery and numerous events that make it a center for Greenwich social activity.  On a regular basis the library offers computer classes, Friday evening movies events and free sessions about personal finances and personal health. As a way to give back and support our local establishment the library has created another fun way to be entertained and give simultaneously.

The Greenwich Library and La Piccola Opera  present “Little Red Riding Hood”, on Saturday December 3, 2011 at 2pm.  The event takes place at the Cole auditorium and tickets may be purchased online or at the Greenwich Library Trustees’ office at 101 West Putnam Avenue.  This “opera in miniature” brings the world’s most multi-layered art form into the lives of children and teenagers, in order to ex-pose them to the timeless beauty of opera through a delightful, easy-to-follow, English-narrated and abridged format that gives you the very best of opera in under an hour.
